Oppose HB 2377

Reps. Eric Pettigrew and Mary Lou Dickerson, both D-Seattle, are sponsoring a three-year sales-tax hike as part of HB 2377. The bill, which would add three-tenths of a percentage point to the sales tax, is the most concrete tax proposal to come out of the Legislature so far.

Lawmakers need to hear from you, not just your opposition to HB 2377 but to all the other tax increases the Legislature is considering over the next several days.

• Most Washington families are making difficult cuts to survive in this economy. The Legislature should be forced to make the same cuts we're all making.

• Even the best government programs must do more with less in this economy.

• Jobs are being lost and businesses are failing every day. Higher taxes will just make things worse.

• Our lawmakers should do their jobs and balance the budget without more taxes.

Washington state at a crossroads

People all across the state of Washington are feeling the pain of our challenging economy. Unfortunately, our Legislature is considering raising taxes on hard-working Washington families. We started No Time For Taxes to advocate for state budget solutions that don't place an undue burden on taxpayers.

Raising taxes is not the answer. People are losing their jobs every day. State government must make the same kinds of cuts that Washington families have already been forced to make.
