It was only a few weeks ago that our Legislature seemed to be headed toward a tax increase to make up a large budget deficit this year. But through many efforts, our state's lawmakers got the message that this is not the time to raise taxes on Washington residents.
Our legislators have a difficult job, no doubt, especially when faced with a $9 billion deficit. They had to make the hard decisions to cut very worthy and valuable state programs in order to get the budget in the black. They also recognized that their constituents were not willing or able to handle a hike on taxes.
Many thanks to you for contacting your lawmakers about how a tax hike would affect you and your family. Now that Olympia has received the message loud and clear, we ask that you e-mail your lawmakers to tell them "Thank you" for getting the message and acting accordingly.
