Gov. Gregoire says this morning that she may call a very short special session for the Legislature to work out a few remaining bills, including policy on immigrant offenders, sentencing and clean energy.
No big worries on taxes right now, but it's a shame the Legislature couldn't finish its work in time. Still, we're happy that lawmakers did their job and approved a budget within the state's means and without new taxes.
What good does it do to fight taxes at the state level and appluad the State Government for not raising taxes if they're just going to raise taxes at the local level anyway? The sales tax in Snohomish County has increased from 8.6% to 9.2% due to a single new tax, "The Snohomish County Mental Health Tax"... What??? It's certainly having a negative impact on my mental health already.
